About SpongeBob SquarePants:
One of the most recognizable cartoons of the 21st century, SpongeBob SquarePants is an animated children’s show created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg. Since 1999, the show has told the tales of a talking sponge named SpongeBob SquarePants going on various adventures with friends for 13 seasons.SpongeBob is very naïve and childlike. His favorite show is that of Superheroes Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy (who are now elders in their costume), his hobbies are jellyfish fishing with his best friend Patrick, and he loves his job as a fry cook in Krusty Krabs. One of the running gags of this show is his horrible driving skills, never getting his boat driving license from Ms. Puffs Boat Driving School. On one occasion, he only scored 6 out of 600.
His best friend Patrick Star is (usually) an unemployed starfish that lives on the same street as SpongeBob SquarePants. He is most known for his low intelligence and his schemes that usually get the duo in trouble. Despite his low intelligence, Patrick has shown some extremely intelligent moments. Outside from SpongeBob’s friendship, every other character gets irritated by him easily.
SpongeBob’s next-door neighbor and fellow employee at the Krusty Crab is Squidward Tentacles. Cynical, appreciator of the fine arts and sarcastic, Squidward is the opposite to SpongeBob and Patrick. He gets very irritated by their antics and longs for more from his life than just being a cashier. Sometimes, he has needed SpongeBob to fulfill his dreams. The most famous is in the episode ‘Band Geeks’, where Squidward is challenged by his rival to play at the Bubble Bowl (a clever parody of the Superbowl). This episode led to the cover of Sweet Victory–one of the most popular moments in SpongeBob’s history. Despite his cold attitude towards SpongeBob, Squidward has stood up for him, such as throwing a pizza in a rude customer’s face for hurting SpongeBob.
SpongeBob’s other friends and allies include Sandy Cheeks, a Texan squirrel who lives in a diving suite. When SpongeBob visits her bubble dome, it has led to another memorable moment of the show with a dehydrated SpongeBob screaming ‘I need it!’. Mr. Krabs is SpongeBob’s boss and he would do anything to save money, get money and to please his daughter Pearl. Other characters include Ms. Puff, who is often in danger trying to teach SpongeBob how to drive. Plankton and Karen constantly try to steal Mr. Krabs’ Kraby Pattie formula. Gary is SpongeBob’s pet snail who meows. We can see SpongeBob having full conversations with him in many episodes.
The show is a pop culture icon. It has won many awards such as 4 Emmys and has fans from all ages. However, it is most known for internet memes the show has generated. Most of the memes found on SpongeBob feature Patrick sneaking up on SpongeBob and Squidward’s infinite amount of alarm clocks, just to name a couple.
